Okay guys im back to not charging again. Could a bad battery cause it to not want to charge? if you have a lead acid battery..check the acid level...if you were continuously charging @ 17V you may have boiled the acid out

Okay I put the new battery in and im still not gettin a charge now and my regulator green coil is extremely hot

Man what does the green go to? I'd talk with that dude who does harnesses and ask what he would charge since it's an older bike and not as technical as a sports bike harness

That sucks it's messing up maybe this weekend if ur free u can bring the bike over and we can check all ur connections.

You mean green wire? If so, regulator probably is shorted letting excessive current to ground. Assuming your green wire is the ground.
check the resistance through your field coil (white to green wire) coming out of alternator again just to be safe.

I'd talk with that dude who does harnesses and ask what he would charge since it's an older bike and not as technical as a sports bike harness Should have three wires coming from the regulator Black - constant (ignition switched) 12V into regulator White - modulated voltage into alternator to control output voltage Green - chassis ground ( completes path through field coil)

And no not the green wire it looms like a coil on the back of the regulator

Yea I'll get the diagram so we can check grounds and make sure everything is good. What year is the bike again?

Im getting 7 when I ohmed between the white and green How about across the regulator? Not sure what it should be but if essentially nothing its probably got a short. It's really looking like you have a regulator problem.
