Got some time to go out to the garage tonight, I drilled out my holes for my speedo and tach mount as the cables kept the headlight pointing down at the ground. I did most of the wiring in that rat nest of a headlight shell, The only thing I didn't do was the headlight as I plan on installing HID headlight bulbs and I want to run a relay with a larger wire to it. I welded up a mount for the gas tank with my piece of crap welder (no thanks to the east side shed thieves). I hooked up the gas lines turned the key, pushed the starter button and VRRRRRRRRRM VRRRRRRM VRRRRRRM BOBBBBBBOBBBBOBBBOBBBOOOB VRRRRRRM. Wow, I love the sound of those Dunstall mufflers, I can't wait to get this thing done. That's it for tonight!

Oh, there is only a couple more vintage bike nights for the wusses that get cold when temperatures get below 60.... Just kidding! That is about my only time out of the house so I ride there every chance I get.

This build is going to be nice. How soon will it be done do you think? I wouldn't say it is going to be a nice build. It has the original paint on the everything with chips all over including the tank that even has some dents and pitting in the chrome. I am not sure when it will be done, I was hoping today but it looks like I was wrong again. I bought some fresh gas for it this morning and now it will not start. There are a ton of little things that need to be done before I take her out on the road. Hard to get out to the garage, I guess life happens. Hopefully over winter I can strip it down and repaint everything but if it goes anything like this last year, it will be a couple years before she gets new paint.

It was just fouled plugs. Click the picture for a bad video of her firing up!

Went out to the garage today, put the new progressive springs on my cb900f shocks and then installed them on the bike. They are much longer than the stock ones and I hope they will work out. I pulled her out to the drive and pushed the starter button. She fired right up and again, sounded great. I pulled in the clutch, shifted into first and she jumped forward and died. WTF! something is wrong with the clutch! I pulled off the cover to check the cable and I see where the cable attaches has hit the chain but still should work. No matter how much I adjust the cable, it doesn't seem to be enough to release the clutch. Any ideas? I guess I have something else to figure out before I ride.

That design doesn't have a ball bearing in its design does it? I remember reading somewhere (possibly here?) that the rod that goes through to lift the clutch has a ball bearing to take up the spinning motion... That's my only guess. :-)

Thanks, that was my first thought but the ball was still in there. It worked fine last year when I pulled it in the garage. I don't know what it could be!

If it has sat for a while, the clutch plates just might be stuck together. Without it running, put it in gear and rock the bike with the clutch lever depressed. They should come loose. If it was working last year, chances are they aren't stuck too badly.
I had a bike with this issue (more of a chronic issue) and the plates would also come loose if you let the bike idle and warm up a bit. You might try that as well.

It sat for most of its life, (only 4,300 miles on it). Last time before I got it going it sat for 31 years. I changed the oil but I only rode the bike about 5 miles before it sat another year. I tried the rocking back and forth but no luck. I will just have to pull the clutch assembly apart and check it out. My new badges I made from aluminum stock. I did a drawing of a skull onto an Avery sticker, I cut it out, put the sticker on the stock, sprayed on some paint, peeled the sticker off and now I have new badges. Ok, doesn't look as good as the stock 450 badges but cost about $200 less.
