Tail light is yours for $10, 550i. I ran into an issue taking the motor apart. I got to the point in the picture, but I need a 4 toothed socket type tool to get this out. I apologize, but I forget the name of the part. If anyone has the tool and is willing to sell it or let me borrow it, I'd appreciate it. Other than that, I am amazed at the condition this motor is in. It's pristine compared to the other motor I was trying to clean up. I also ordered some dirt bike bars that are going to look slick. Does anyone have experience with custom controls on handlebars? I've been looking online but I can't find much. I want a hi/low beam switch on the left and turn signals on the right and I'm using dirt bike levers, so I'm not using the stock controls. Even a link to a forum or website would be appreciated. That's a sweet little sidecar! Custom built or bought? I'd love to make one, but my lady says she won't be caught dead in one haha.

Good idea. I'm trying to keep the bars pretty clean.

The tool is for the oil slinger nut. If you do not want to pay $$ for a tool. The next best thing is to make a tool yourself. I can not remember the size but I took a comparable size socket and notched it to fit that nut. Hope this helps.

Like cb500bobber I always use toggle switches for hi/lo and light on off. Like my bikes basic- use a simple on/off key on the side with an old fashion tractor type push button starter.

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting 550fi and he let me borrow the socket to get the oil spinner off. Then I tore into the rest of the motor and pulled the cases apart. Now starts the cleaning and blasting of everything motor-wise and then the piecing back together shouldn't hold me up too much as long as I have all the parts I need. Here's a couple pictures of what the motor looked like when we started last night and then after when we were washing the bottom of the cases. You can see the very bottom was almost black but was mostly just road gunk. Anyone know of a place I could get standard sized piston rings? Attachments:

This is while the cases were in the parts cleaner. You can tell the difference between the top and bottom. Attachments:

Glad you got it apart, youre on your way.You can try Dreyer Honda or E bay.Soda blasting would probably be one of the best ways to do your cases,Harbor Freight sell some pretty cool soda blasters. If you work on old bikes, clean up tools are essential.

As for your hand controls question, if you don't want to go the toggle switch route, since you are using dirt bike bars (probably 7/8" I would guess) you might want to buy some 1970's style enduro dirt bike controls. For instance, I have a 1976 yamaha IT175 and the left control is small and simple but has hi/low beam switch and I think an engine kill switch built in, if memory serves me correctly. i don't think it has turn signal switch though b/c an IT is trail only, but maybe an enduro such as a DT250 or something else from the era would have very simple and small switches built in. Just a thought.

I picked up this control switch on Ebay for about $13, so I'm gonna use it until I make something that will look little more uniform. I'm still trying to figure out my wiring...that's all way over my head. This will control my hi/lo and turn signals and the horn button (on the bottom) is going to be my kill switch, I believe. (Like I said, I haven't figured out the wiring. Has anyone ever taken the starter off on one of these bikes? I'd like to have it be kick only and get rid of the starter, but there's a hole from the side cover where the starter goes and I'm not sure if I could plug that. Anyone ever seen it done? I did my CB360 as kick only. I found a aluminum plug on ebay, I think for around 20 bucks. Came with an o-ring for a good seal. Have no leaks from it.
