They say you can use the old spring but you need to crimp it to 8lbs measureable by a fish scale or sorts. From what Ive read they came with a tension of 5lbs and it causes it all to slip, 8lbs seemed to be the magic number and anything greater would not allow it to engage properly. But you probably read that too just incase. xs650forums advice.

That's what I read also. I plan on riding the next several days, so when it gets to cold ill crimp the spring.

Well I hit 90 yesterday..
Things Im wanting to do to it still is; Lower it another 2 in., shorten the fork springs, rear gas shocks, alum swingarm swap, remove the starter, speed holes in the mags, pma swap, new paint, swap battery for a ballistic evo 4 (120cca's but Im kicking so...?), tuck all the electronic bits into a bottom pan under the seat, get the damn thing to hit neutral while running with the weight on and to hit the TON before next spring. Thats not asking to much right?

are those 1.75" pipes? are they straight thru or baffled? my 1.75s sound not so great, baffled or straight. I plan some kind of muffler. also the low end torque went south. torque cones helped some but not back to norm yet. I think some back pressure will help. looks great.

1.5 and baffled, used some old stem bearing races for the header gasket/spacer.
Whens the last time you cleaned the jets?

Still no cut or grind on the original frame. Reversed shift pattern. I'm sure I'd fuck that up at the most inopputune time.

Im sure I will, it was easier it seemed racing down the street, suppose to be easier up shifting out of a corner. Were all gonna crash and burn eventually haha. Will see tho on a serious note; Ive been gathering parts to build the linkage to put it back to normal. Ive been thinking about taking the short one I have and cutting it in half, slipping a sleeve over it getting the length I need. The mid mount peg post is in the way tho. And currently out one splatter box welder.

Is there any reason why I couldnt just use in Old sparx unit with inline capacitor to rid myself of a battery? Ive done a ton of reading and I think I have myself confused.
Single phase, kick only, no battery
stock stator/alternator, replace old reg/rec with sparx unit, wire in capacitor were the battery use to be?
