This is not dead... it's actually becoming more feasible and Im undertaking a new plan to get it done. This coming year Ill be hopefully selling the farmhouse and buying an existing ran down warehouse in the city, cost benefits and such. Looking for something like an old shop, with office space that's easily converted into living space. So if you know someone thats looking to offload there commercial property and its feasibly in the 120k range then by all means share. Something like this: mibor.ws.marketlinx.com/prop/en-us/inr/21150016

I think when you get a garage, we do a profile of each member. Script some fake reality. Boom New hit TV show!!!

Dreams of quiting the day job are good inspiration of much needed hope these days. Unfortunately I doubt it'll ever come down to that. Its an awesome idea though, just think how cheesy the parking wars and repo guy shows are, this idea would be top notch with the biker community. All dreams aside though.. Three apartments, two rented, one for me to come back to when the girlfriend has had enough. lol This way I dont have to move my toys or tools just a bag of clothes. Ultimate Dog House. Enough room for private parties and live bands! Well you get it, endless dreaming that is. 6k sqft is enough for how many sickles and rods? Shop, bar, lounge, winter storage... Just found out the semi-annual taxes are 1200. Looks like a payment of around $429.46+200+Insurance+Garage Keepers Policy. I pay more than that now... pay for something that I believe in? Priceless.

This all sounds very nice. I would be very interested in having a place to work on my bike. I have a few ideas to share with you all. Instead of dues, have a users fee. This way the folks who couldn't join in all the time were given a fair chance to become members. Another idea is that whoever is the owner of this "garage/club house" would reap the benefits of members that get kicked and leave the club. All dues and fees that are paid are non-refundable as to cut down on the arguments and bad flavor of the departing member. As far as doing business such as working on bikes for profit, as long as the parts are turned without profit and sales tax is paid to the vendor where they are purchased, there is no tax due. the labor is the sole responsibility of the tech working on the bike and no liability is transferred to the club, then the club has not incurred any tax debt from this transaction. I believe this would clear the club from most business taxes other than capital gains, if no cash gain is recorded. I have no idea about the proper permits, as each county have their own laws as to what is needed. the county in which the club is located would dictate that.
This is just my opinion and may not apply to what you are wanting. Also I own a HVAC company and will provide heat and air at no profit.

Hey Tag, just been getting caught up on the thread ,definitely a good idea. My shop is 24x36 and if you remember it was crowded with 2 bike projects ,mig&tig welder, work bench, tool boxes ,tubing bender, parts racks, material racks, lathe so you can never go to big on a building especially if you want a champagne room with a brass pole. Also good insulation to keep heating costs down. I had the spray on insul which is pricey but saves in the long run. keep us posted on the progress.

Ive been chatting with the loan officer and personally I think my personal debt income ratio is currently to steep until I can offload the house. Investors are welcome.

Anyone know of any non-profit exprienced lawyers and a grant writer?
Found an interesting tidbit in brownfields, the state and or counties pay you to clean up a facility and make use of it.

Hmm I am. I work part time at a bike shop which gives me access to all the tools and equipment I need but would like to get into a garage with like minded people. All the people at the shop I work at are into sport bikes and think the vintage stuff is junk

Thanks. Can't wait to hear more. We are cheaper than tractor supply by far. Most of what we carry are not metric but we do have an entire metric isle. I've had luck finding what I need so far

We def need to get a tally on who is interested in this idea. Ive been talking to Shane about this. After May 31st I will have some time on my hands as im prob taking a buy out or worst case going back to part time. My particular idea is to find a shop with some space where we can help winterize and store bikes through the winter to supplement the cost of having the shop. We could do a membership where members get unlimited access for a monthly due, and non members would be charged a fee or hourly rate for each time they come in. Along with that we may build this up to where we need a part time mechanic or more. Who knows. Let the brain storming begin. Before i was losing my job, i would have no use for a member shop, but now that I need to find a new source of income, i would be willing to possibly fund this venture and possibly add in my powder coating and blasting to the mix, that includes dry ice blasting. We might even be able to get an in house welder as well. just thinking out loud.
videoing the process would be good too. say we do a shop build together for a benifit. Real reality tv would be good. Steve
