A for profit shop could be granted a "garage keepers policy".
To save my own butt I would need the members to sign a liability waiver and property liability release.
Agent said the bike does not need to be plated, you can insure it for liability since its not being ridden.
She advised me that anyone that didnt have a title should have a bill of sale and it should be shown to me prior to it being stored on the property. Just incase someone slips on a hot one its not on me personally.
Well let me know what your guys thoughts are.

Well in my opinion if dues are collected then what ever the club votes to do with the money is up to the majority. If the club is disbanded then members should get first rights to buy equipment durring the clubs liquidation and the total from the liquidation should be used to payoff any debts the club had, then evenly distributed amongst the members.

Wait, is there a 1% in Indianapolis we would have to actually worry about?!?! Hmm I've never noticed.
This is such an awesome idea... I think you should also consider the amount of people you might be attracting to your place and if you really would want that during all hours of the night.
I'm curious to know what the fees might be... given the distance, I don't know how often I could head out that way, but it is something I'd like to support so I could have access if needed!!!

you dont have to ask the 1% anything,,, you can start a club if you want, and if there were any left, what u are wanting to do wont bother them.,

1%er's are the "Outlaws" and yeah there are about five groups in Indiana that are active, all showed up for the Cyclefest show this year.
Just googled how to start a motorcycle club and thats the first thing that came up.
Roubenbird, yeah my wife isnt to hip to the idea yet but I told her its going to be ok.
Her thing is a bunch of people she doesnt know around her house and what if someone is nuts.
My response was well they wouldnt be allowed into this particular group as there lyes a ton of risk, thoughts are anyone dedicated to this craft would be goal minded and ready to get things done. Sure we all have are own quirks but if your just angry person well... you know where Im getting at.
As far as the due amount well wont know exactly but well have a budget drawn up and start making the neccessary adjustments as we go along.
Lead, that sounds fair to me!
Itll be nice to get the code of conduct and laws of the shop all voted on. Might start drafting up a consitution of sorts.

You do not have to worry about the 1% thing at all. I'm in a club here in Indy no where near an outlaw club and we talked with multiple 1% clubs years ago about our existence. We throw events that they even attend and we are not on their radar. From what you guys are wanting to do you will not show up on their radar either. Now if you start cooking meth out of the pole barn it might be a different issue. lol

Got some quotes...
42x48x14 tall, pole barn 19k constructed.
25x40x12, 9k all rib steel
16x40x14, pole barn 9k
Jeez the price of materials is nutz.
Might be ending up with a 25x40 all steel.

Welcome aboard lightfoot! A professional painter would definetly be a nice addition to the club. I think I can speak for everyone the paint booth is a definite in the future shop. As far as the bikes go well thats up to you.

New to the board and already liking it! The whole idea of a common work space for dedicated builders, assemblers or fabricators if you want to call us that, would be killer. I myself have been building back the old 70's custom stuff you would have seen in the mags of the day for going on 15 years now and have been wrenching on bikes since I was a kid. Never have been able to get a shop up and runnin and with the internet now you dont even need to have shop hours or a showroom. I live in Muncie so not conv for me to go to indy but I would like to implement this same idea somewhere in Muncie or close by. I know I would be willing to help with upgrades to the building if needed and put in the sweat equity needed to make something out of this idea. Just imagine all the parts and know how that could be "donated" to a common cause and each man still could be compensated for their contribution. I mean if someone donates a motor to the shop, once a bike sells with that motor on it the man recieves fair comp for his contribution. I would just like to be able to work on my own projects, help others with their projects and be able to create as big a network as possible as to be able to source more of these hard to find vintage parts that are still hiding out there. Some guys have the tools and no time to use them, some guys have hoarded parts for years which could be used to bring back history and make someone a few bucks and some guys have the skills, the desire and the drive to do the hard work and it just makes sense for these three kinds of folks to get their heads together on a little more organized and serious level. I know Im in, just say when.
