I have a dream, that one day all these bikes will run again and look good doing it.
'75 Moto Guzzi 850T, '78 CX500, '81 GL1100, '88 ZX10
The Guzzi belonged to my dad. I drove out to Alb NM to pick it up when he passed away. It has been in project form going on seven years. Ive been accumulating parts for it and designing it in my head and on random bits of paper, hoping ill have it going this season. The CX5 and GL11 I picked up as a pkg deal last year. I want to get the CX5 running this spring to teach my son how to ride. The ZX10 was too cheap to pass on. It needs one of everything and is on the bottom end of my priority list. Tried to post pics but they are too big.

Nice project list. I almost had my hands on a 73 Guzzi... it's a tale too sad to repeat... :-(
Welcome and I look forward to seeing the Guzzi!

Those old Guzzis are fine bikes and ought to make a good rider.

Open the pics in mspaint and resize to 50%. Should do the trick. We like pictures.

Mocked up the Guzzi front end last night. Rebuilt and painted the front brake caliper. I drilled and painted the rotors a while back. Have new clip-ons and new levers. New clutch lever perch. Have new brake lines on the way. Started rebuilding the forks, have new tubes seals and dust covers. Now I think i need new cartridges as well. I had stripped the old paint off the lowers, thinking about leaving them raw. The front wheel seems a lil off. Does anybody know the fine art of truing a spoked wheel? Def will need new tires before any serious riding but the old pirelli holds air still.
Got a new plug cap for the CX500 today. Rebuilt the carbs tonight, have a few parts left over from the kit. No idea where they go but its nothing i took out on the teardown. I guess ill see if its fudged when I get them on and tested.

Hey jfree, I've been known to true a wheel or two. I don't think my trueing stand has enough clearance for a wheel with a tire on it. Start spraying the nipples with PB blaster. That is the biggest problem with old wheels the nipples are corroded onto the spoke and when you go to turn it it breaks or strips out.

Thanks and thanks re the rims and carbs. im gonna need new rubber anyway so when its time id love a crash course in rim truing. I cleaned up the nipples a while back on the front. The rear end needs taken apart and cleaned up still.
I havent had time to mess with photos but have been out in the garage. I got new front brake lines in for the guzzi, plugs for the cx5, an old army gas can to chop for side covers for the 5 and two holes in the 5s tank. Anybody know a good/affordable welder? Mocked up handlebars from the guzzi on the cx5, i think theyll fit what im going for. The clutch side button box was broken so im gonna use one from a cb550 i have.

Been a long crazy busy summer. Got engaged, trips to fla and tx and just bought a house in Irvington. Got more shop space and it's a hop and skip from the steer inn. Now for the important stuff, major breakthrough on the Guzzi. Took off the clutch and flywheel and discovered the rear main seal had given up. What was a dry clutch was soaked in oil. The flywheel was all chewed up. I have replacements on the way. This is huge. I've been stalled out on this bike for a long time. Like Thursdays child it has far far to go but I can see it on the road by spring. Pics on its fb page: Guzzi projecttwentyone

The flywheel and rear seal came in this week. Most of the parts are laid out in my shop. Just hoping for the time this wknd to get some progress made. It's been so long since I've heard that motor roar I might not know how to act. I hope I don't piss off my neighbors.
