on a similar note, i tried my local BMV (greenfield) on a title and they were giving me a hard time. they honestly seemed like they didnt know what to do with a '66 bike with a clear indiana title. after two visits with no results i tried the pendleton BMV and they were extremely helpful, patient and i got my title. just depends on the people, the computers are all linked in the same system. The lady in pendleton just knew what she was doing.

I bought my 1978 Honda 550 with no title. I had a lot if trouble with trying to get a bill of sale title. I did everything you guys talked about. I even went to Danville and saw the lady. The problem is the bike came up titled in Ohio. They gave me a package that included all the forms you guys have listed. I sent this along with my bill of sale that was notirized by the seller when he bought it. I had a buddy sell it to me and did NOT have it notirized. In about 2 weeks I called and they said they were mailing me a title. It came a week later from downtown. I also included a letter saying that I was made to feel at the local branch like I was trying to do something wrong. I stated that the bike was 35 years old and not worth much. And I had proof from the police that it was not stolen. Hope this helps. Total cost $18

Since it looked like it had been a while since anyone had updated this, I just wanted to say that mailing this in worked great for me. Just got my new title in the mail after sending all my paperwork in to the central titling office, as instructed by the A of O packet. Total cost was around $40, after paying for a police inspection, certified mail, and actual title fees.
Thanks for sharing this!

Good LORD this state sucks. In MN you just take the bike to the inspection garage, tell them you built it from spare parts, they make sure it has all the pieces the law requires and write the frame number on the form and stamp it. Most of the "required parts" like license plate light, speedo, etc don't even have to work, they can be zip tied or duct taped on and even removed as soon as the stamp hits the paper. I can't believe we have to have working front brakes....
