Hey Steve, that bike needs a lot more than flat track tires. But anyway half of them aren't sliding because they are scared shitless and haven't made the leap of faith. I think you need some laps to see exactly what I'm saying. Most people never learn the feeling of "sending" it in to the corner. Signed, Sliding Past You, 46217

Some tips that will help you get that DT 250 around a flat track: You will need to lace a 19" wheel to the front hub or buy a 19" spool wheel. Front brakes are not allowed on flat trackers. Tires that work on a flat track don't come in 21" sizes. As to tires...For a beginner you don't have to go all out for the special tires. For the vintage class a set of Dunlop K70 universal tread tires will work and be legal. 4.00 x 18 for the rear and 3.50 x 19 for the front. You will also want to slide the fork tubes up in the triple clamps between 1 to 3 inches (experiment) to quicken the steering. Get yourself flat track handlebars...there are a few different bends but what we always used were stock (USA model)1966 thru 1970 Triumph Bonneville/TR6 bars. You will also need a compression release for the all important engine braking from that 2 stroke engine. A good way to practice to help you learn is to set 2 55 gallon drums about 50 feet apart and run around them as fast as you can breaking the rear tire loose and using the throttle to control the slide and steer the bike. Good luck and remember...things happen super fast on a flat track...they'll be loading you into the ambulance before you realize you're falling off! Sooooo...whatever you do, DON'T skimp on safety gear.

Id like to set up a Vintage Ride to one of these races. Meet up for early dinner then ride to the track and watch some flat tracking. They have vintage classes too!!
