So, today I took the day off of work to do a handful of little issues to Heartache... installed my top engine mount/head steady, Sync'ed up the carbs... and went to reinstall the fuel tank and realized the bottom of the tank was wet with fuel... The left: The right:

It is probably a combination of issues... the area around the threaded bungs inside the tank (the side I can see) is the only rusted pitted area in the tank, my rubber isolator mount is insufficient, shit ton of vibration... It's a Triumh after all. :-)

bummer. yeah that area being the low spot where any water would end up to rest and rust might mean a tough-to-weld repair. ie: larger patch. the good part is, you found it when you did.

Yea finding it now is way better than having three gallons of fuel dump onto my crotch and hot exhaust... I'll prolly patch the whole rusted out area.

I have used many of POR's products and they are tough as nails....I haven't used their tank coating but I'm sure if you follow their prep instructions you'll be fine..
I coated a nylon tank with Caswell's, but used POR's Marine Clean to clean it first. So far so good...

My father uses their products for painting over rust like on frames... you can beat that stuff with a hammer and it doeant chip or crack. I have high hopes for it... probably should have just done that to begin with... live and learn.
