The tank on my bf's Honda CB1 has ancient Kreem coat in it from a previous owner. The tank is now rusting under the Kreem coat and the coating is bubbling. The question of the day is.... How do you remove old Kreem coat without having the whole tank dipped? We have searched every option. At this point we are prepared to spend around $600 on a new tank. Rare bikes are soooo fun (sarcasm).

I'm almost certain muratic acid would dissolve the kream and clean the rust. I am pretty good at using the stuff now so let me know if u need help

I have never used Kreem on any of my bikes for the exact reason we are dealing with now. I just usually use the acid then keep them full of gas.

I have an easy and cheap cleaning solution for your rusty tank problems. I use 1 Gallon of Milkstone remover from tractor supply. Its $12 for a gallon jug and is used to remove milkstone, calcium, and rust from dairy farmers milk tanks. It does contain phosphoric Acid but is much safer that handling muratic acid. Just pour in the gallon of cleaner, add various sized nuts and bolts and shake around for 10-20 min. Then drain and flush with water a few times then dry the tank out. If I don't plan on filling the tank for a while I will add a 1/3 of a quart of engine oil and slosh around. I really don't see the use in a liner coat unless the tank is very pitted.
