Its not too hard, but you need to get on Youtube and watch it done a few times. Curious Guest is correct, there is a certain weight and measurement you need for fork oil. The heavier the weight oil, the stiffer the ride. Youll prob want 15 weight. Check your mannual. You can get fork oil at the auto store. I used Lucas Fork oil in my cb750 forks. You will need a PVC pipe to tap the seals back in with out damaging them or some sort of tool. Dont just bang them in with a rubber mallet.

My 79 Honda CM400 you have to take the fork tubes out and dump them out.Good advice from tango on the pvc pipe, also dont forget to take out the retainer clips. Also put fork oil or light grease on the new seals when you put them in.Most Hondas have a drain plug on the lower forks by the axle, some have a bolt looking up where the axle rides dont take that one out or you will never get it to stop leaking.

In addition its also a good time to check tires, brakes, wheel brgs. and seals.clean and grease speedo drive and install new seal, lube speedo cable and other cables, check steering head brgs, front wheel balance, fork boots or gators and wiring.Try to have a gallon of mineral spirits or acetone to clean parts, check and recheck all bolts and nuts for proper torque and you front end should be good for years to come other than regular maintanance.

Seals either leak or they dont, mine before I rebuilt my frontend you could see oil leaking every bump I hit.For 56 dollars I got new seals and boots(Honda) no more leaks, just change oil every year or so.

Dude, every time you talk to me you brag about how you are a mechanic. Quit whining about these fork seals and just do it already. Why wait till winter? It is not that hard. What would you have done if someone brought you a bike with bad fork seals when you had your "motorcycle shop" listed on Craigslist? Turn them away!

A couple of buddies and a 12 pack and you can have it done in about 15 minutes. That’s how long it took us. I think the most time was spent jacking up and stabilizing the bike.
