Been busy polishing all the aluminum on the Norton. Here's the timing cover from start to finish entirely by hand: 1.) Scotch Brite 2.) 600 Grit 3.) 1000 Grit, 1500 Grit, and 2000 Grit 4.) Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish

Very nice! How many hours? What I would give for a dedicated bench grinder with polish wheel.

Nice work, gives the fingers a work out. One thing about doing it by hand you save on a big mess. To me thats the worst. Ron

Very nice! How many hours? What I would give for a dedicated bench grinder with polish wheel. Taggat - that piece took my an hr. I did fork sliders and valve covers the other day and they came out just as nice. The bigger pieces are a little bit easier to do and not quite as tedious. Kinda like painting a wall vs. doing the trim work. I actually have some polishing wheels for my bench grinder, but I don't have enough clearance between the wheel and the motor to do the bigger stuff, so it has to be done by hand. The nice part about doing it by hand (other than saving some money) is that you can control the finish. I was going to have everything professionally done, but the only thing I could get was a full polish which I was interested in. I don't want the alloy to look too new.

I like that look too, I was going to say that but wasn't sure that what you were going for. I always dull down the stainless after polishing it on my old car.

Nice job on polishing,I wish I had a bench polisher too,I use my drill press and it works great and gives good access with a 4 inch wheel to get in the nooks and crannies better plus its easy to change speeds.
