I finally made an attachment for my float bowls that enables me to accurately check the fuel level. Setting the floats by measuring is a place to start, but in these old carbs (especially a bank of 4) it's nice to know where the fuel level is exactly, before install. First, I hung up my lawn mower gas tank WITH a filter, which is also nice when synchronizing. Next, I used an extra bowl plug screw, and drilled a small hole through the middle. The hole was just a tad smaller than the 1/8" copper tube I used as the nipple. Some lite polishing on the copper made it just the right size to fit in tightly with no solder and no leakage. Then, I squared off the head to fit a 10mm wrench. (photo shows standard plug - piece of tubing - finished drain plug) After screwing it in, attaching the bowl, level the carb, attach the 1/8" fuel line (auto zone $2) and turn it on. photos tell the rest. It's nice doing these one at a time. Flip it over and adjust the "tang" and check it again. Dump the bowl gas back in the test tank. Most manuals give the float measurement AND a measurement for distance between fuel and carb body base (where the gasket goes). These KZ650 carbs call for 2-3mm below the base. hope it helps
