So I have noticed my brake pedal has been hanging up on my exhaust..Havent had the time to fix it so I have just been dealing with it..anyway on my way back into work today I smelled the familiar smell of electrical fire. I thought it was the car in front of me but when I noticed the smoke coming from my arse I pulled over to see what was going on. Apparently My brake light has also been staying on all the time which over loaded the wires and they melted together and shorted!! Looks like I have some rewiring to do tomorrow..Be careful out there!

Sounds like the brake switch might have gone bad.

It probably is now..The brake pedal for the rear brake(only brake shes got) got bent when the bike got dropped and has been hanging up on the exhaust.I had to pull it back up with my foot like I was up shifting.the switch was working but its probably toast now..anyone have a good one laying around they would be willing to sell?

So was the sticking brake pedal what caused the light to stay on constantly

Looks like the whole tail light got cooked..bulb melted the lens and has fused itself to the lens...Dammit that tail light was only a couple weeks old..What tail lights are you guys running? and has anyone been hassled for having the plate mounted sideways with a tail light on the side instead of behind the seat?

Question is, What tail light are you running? I am guessing your wattage is to high, but even then, the light melted it? Crazy! You could always buy an led tail light bulb, they put off almost no heat and will not work your charging system as much as a standard bulb. You didn't have a halogen bulb in there or something?

no just the bulb it came with..Im using a cateye shaped tail light thats really small. the bulb that was in it was just a small dual filament. I just dont think it was made to take the heat or amperage of the brake light being on all the time

before you get one check how much volts your geting to light to make sure u dont have a overloading problem, i have seen it happen on cars , it could happen on a bike, should be 12v with the brake applyed and a lower volts with just the runing light on,, just to be on the safe side,
