I'm thinking about running a halogen replaceable bulb lens on my cb450. I noticed that they make 45w energy saving h4 bulbs. The kit from autozone is only 30 bucks so I'm willing to try it out. I am not running turn signals so I'm not worried about undercharging and if it becomes a problem then I'll just go back to sealed beams. Has anyone else done this?

Since turn signals are only on when the bike is turning, that really isn't going to help to not have them. You may want to use a led tail light to drop the amount of amps used. Keep in mind the auto lights shine a different pattern than motorcycle lights. Just check with an multimeter and make sure you have proper volts going to the battery. Hey, one more thing, in the headlight shell, you can change the wiring around to make it use the high voltage from your generator at all times. You may want to google that. It is as easy as switching like to wire but I can't remember what ones it was so google it. Chris

Thanks Felk. I am already running the generator mod your talking about. This lens that comes with the kit seems to be motorcycle specific. So the light spread should be fine. And I plan to use the h4 bulbs that are the same rating as my head lamp. The have them at auto zone with a 35w rating and I'll experiment with the little higher watt ones too. I switched my generator to run all the time because I've eliminated hand controls and wanted head and tail lights to be running lights. I will report to you guys how my mod works and try to get a before and after beam in my garage when it's dark. I should have the the kit by the 31st

Here is the headlight with the regular incandescent lamp in. It's pretty dim. I definitely need an upgrade to feel safer. It's like a mouse in there holding a candle! Attachments:

I put an hid on mine. It actually pulls less amps than the original after it starts up. It is f*^%# bright. It will be nice to have a bright light after riding a 6 volt bmw all these years.

Ha nice. I just don't know where I'd put the ballast for hid. I may do it in the future. I will have my stuff tomorrow I think. If not then the next day. I'm looking forward to having a brighter light

Do you need a second ballast for the high beam Felk?

I would, but I just have the halogen for high. The dim is 10 times brighter than the halogen, I bet I never use the high beams. Remember, I am used to a candle on the bmw.

I forget that BMW is a 6v. It's an awesome bike though. Are you going to the steer in this Thursday weather permitting?

Well I had to clip the brackets off the new lens but got it to fit in my bucket. I was worried how it would throw the light because the lens was flat but when I road home from the steer in it was really great. And tons brighter. I didn't have a charging issue that I could see but I'm running a 55/60w h4 halogen. Two led cluster bulbs in my tail/stop light. Had no flicker or dining during the ride. This weekend I'll get a multimeter to it and see if I'm over charging the battery at all with my set up. Attachments:

I know if you did get a power drainage a capacitor would help, really wouldnt know on what size though.. I have considered upgrading my bulb but I just ride with the high beam on all the time lol, no one ever flashes their lights at me so I just go with it.
