So when I start my bike up it runs just fine and shifts good too. After riding awhile it starts slipping and when I pull up to stop the bike acts like it still wants to go. Could this be the clutch needing rebuilt?

Sounds like it. You are using motorcycle oil and not automotive oil right?

No I'm using 10w30 car oil. Is there really a difference?

Hey CB, the way I understand it you need to use m/c oil because it has lubricants and other properties for the clutch. Auto oil does not. A chemist may be able to substantiate this. Hope this helps.

I have heard using car oil can increase wear or decentegrate the friction modifiers but when a clutch is going out, it's going out. I can only say try making some clutch cable adjustments and see where that leaves you.

I bet that is your problem. They add a bunch of stuff to automotive oils to help keep down friction. Not a good thing with a wet clutch.

I use Valvoline motorcycle 10w 30 but it's mostly what works best in your bike and your preferred brand. Most autopart stores carry a few different brands. If you decide to try different oils don't bounce back and forth between regular oil and synthetic, it will cause seals to go bad.

I use Yamalube semi-synthetic.

I haven't had problems using autozone brand motor oil yet. But I hear there are less detergents in motorcycle oil but I'm not sure how true it is. I'd have to research because I'm pretty sure my 68 originally references an automotive oil

can't say if that's yer problem but, you should be using motorcycle oil for sure. they are formulated for proper clutch operation. check the Honda manual for the right stuff. I wouldn't skimp here for what the outcome might be. I use HD oil in my Guzzi, and Castrol Motorcycle Oil from pep boys for my "stepchild" bikes, and only Yamalube in the XS, as the 650 clutches can be kinda finicky. I used Spectro in my BMW's cause the dealer told me Spectro made the BMW brand oil. Sometimes the BMW oil was cheaper. still a cheap investment...
