in response to a recent message asking us to use the forum more... instead of the facebook page, I'd like to ask. why EXACTLY is the fb page more convenient? easy photo uploads? I would not know why because I dumped my fb acct a year ago, in favor of my highly cherished individualism:) call me anti social, it just seemed like some twisted version of high school/cult (fb in general). higher tech does not always mean better. isn't that why we love vintage bikes? whatever the reasons for 'convenience', why not just make this forum as convenient to use as fb. if anyone addicted to the fb page even finds and reads this, take a second, tell us why.... without using the word convenient, why you visit the fb page and not here, and maybe how the forces that be can make this place more easily used. it is too cool of an asset to motorcycling in indy to let it piss away unused.

Yay another person with the same mindset about FB as me! Haha I couldn't take the spam and rambling that face book injected into my path. Dumped it and moved on. This forum could become a real go to tool for our community for advice and help. I hope it gets up and takes off. It's nice to have a face book page for the forum but let's not let it take away from the community that the forum is here to create.

I have a Facebook account, but I rarely use it for my personal page. I have one for two reasons: 1) to be able to access and maintain our business FB page. Our business has doubled in the past two years since adding a FB connection. 2) to access the Indpls Vintage motorcycle page. Indpls Vintage is the only group I belong to. I check out this forum, but prefer to use the FB page. Why? The simple answer is that the FB page has a much greater base of active members, while this forum is rarely used. The other thing I like about the FB page is that 99% of the members use their real names and its easier to connect and build a relationship with them. Honestly, I don't know the identity of a single poster on this forum in this thread.

Honestly, I don't know the identity of a single poster on this forum in this thread. Exactly! and thank you for that. I'm sure FB helps your business, and that's great. FB has all kinds of advantages for a lot of people, and in many ways. Personally, it has no benefit to me. Believe it or not, there are others who don't use it, and we are all excluded from being "active" members. As it is now, this forum seems to exist solely for the fb link. Don't get me wrong, there should be a fb link and page, but set up for notifications only, with links back to the forum. I was really excited to see this forum get rolling. Indy was soo in need of something 'motorcycle' that wasn't HD, something local, something unique to generate excitement, bring out the true enthusiasts, with real motorcycle blood in their veins. Always had a bike, always will. They do their own maintenance and modifications for PLEASURE. People who build them and those who want to learn. A forum offers specialty categories with threads for detailed explanations, by enthusiasts who want to contribute. This forum's had a slow start, but it can and will grow, given the chance. A fb page is just a fb page, whatever the name of it is. A place to flip bikes. As it is now, fb will never have the potential this forum has to provide a home base for Indy's "wrench, ride, repeat" crowd. too bad, really

Personally I've never had a FB account and never will. Just seems to be a bunch of drama.

I'm not defending Facebook or any other type of social media, but the drama only happens if you allow it. In the four years I've been on Facebook, I have never sent the first friend request and I'm extremely picky on who I accept as a friend. I routinely delete anyone that starts letting their crazy out.

The FB may make it easier to connect to other members on there and stuff like that but the forum isn't just about a social club. It's about pooling knowledge and experience into a library of how to's , suggested locations to ride and this and that. Archiving step by step restorations and detailed repair help isn't something face book handles well. If I need help on how to clean a tank I can come here and look under the appropriate section. That's also what we want to build besides a community.

I guess I need to speak up to this post. Forum - I set up the layout of the forum when it first got started to make it easier for everyone instead of just a general tab. I love the forum because it is easy to find things that have been posted in the past. If I want to read a "how to" on removing anodizing from a part that was posted 2 years ago, I just go to the restoration section and head down a little and there it is, it is not buried under 100,000 pages of post like on facebook, I love this part of the forum. The forum was going strong but has sadly died down a bunch, mostly because of our facebook page.
Facebook - I set up the facebook page knowing it would bring new members that might not know about the forum. We now have 751 members on the facebook page and I bet I add or refuse 1 to 5 members a day. People seem to be obsessed with facebook, they are on it all the time so posts happen extremely fast and smart phones can add pictures in seconds no matter where you are. I hate to think that making the facebook page is what killed the forum but I honestly think that is why it is not what it once was. So many of the original posters on the forum don't ever check into the forum anymore they are strictly facebook. I am also guilty of this, not so much because I want it that way, but because my life has changed so much since this forum was started. I posted on the facebook page about checking out the forum one day and people were like what are you talking about? what forum? I even had a couple people send me messages that I shouldn't try to get people to join another group. What? This is the same group, just another tool for us to use.
My thoughts.... if you want to use the forum, great, if you want to use facebook, great, it is your choice. I think the thing that we need to try to do is get more face to face like we used to at Jack Rabbit Slims, I miss those days!
