Hey all. This is my first post here and it's a doosey!!!
I went out to buy a new bike (80 XS1100) on Saturday. After we got it loaded up I was showing the previous owner a pic if what I was hoping it will soon look like. He'd never heard of the café style, so I have him a quick explanation of British vs American styling. He asked if I was interested in British bikes because his dad had a wrecked BSA in the pole barn. I got interested real fast and we went and had a look story is that his dad bought the bike new in '71 in Germany and had it shipped home. He was riding it in '82 when a lady stopped short in front of him. He was able to slow down quite a bit, but still hit her hard enough to damage the forks and wheels. It has been siting basically since them. We took a look at it and he shot me a price. I've listed after British twins for awhile, but assumed I'd never own one, so I had no idea what it was worth. The price he gave me seemed worth it enough just to have around!!so, we loaded it up an I got it home. Here it is with 30 years of barn dust on it
And after a quick wipe down on the seat an tank
Other than the front end, it seems pretty complete. I reached out to a friends father who I knew was into Brit bikes and he came over for a look last night. He seemed to think its totally realistic to get it back on the road in short order. I know next to nothing about Brit bikes so this will be a learning experience!! But one I am definitely looking forward to. I'm thinking a set of lower bars and a cafe seat from Hot Wing Glass and it'll be close to the bikes I e lusted after for years!!
