well, vintage bikes usually take some tinkering here and there. You may want to start out with a newer small bike if youve never ridden before. Then move up to a vintage bike if thats what you are into. I buy, fix and sell vintage bikes along with others on this site. I would sign up for the Abate class as soon as you can if i were you. I have a sweet old Honda Dream 305 that would be a great 2nd bike for ya down the road.
Another suggestion is a newer Honda 250 Night Hawk.

I would buy a 125 dirt bike. Take it to a big open field away from traffic and practice. Learn all you can about how a motorcycle works, the controls and the physics behind it, i.e. Lean left to go left. Tree's won't jump out in front of you and dirt bike riding is a ton of fun. Just my $0.02.

thanks to all of you. I looked into a ABATE class but the soonest one that's under an hour drive is in three months, and I kinda need a job. My older brother has a bike its just huge so I cant really learn on it. I'll be looking into dirt bikes but I just don't want it to be a waste of money since not all are street legal and I will be needing something soon to get to and from a job. which will be my means of money to buy a better bike. I have a van I can use but it wont be available to me very much since its not technically mine yet.
Thankyou Steve Hoy for the tip of a Honda Night Hawk, It looks like a decent bike if I can find one. HA! I am located near Brownsburg also so if you find anything I would greatly appreciate it.
And I will be interested in a vintage bike once I get comfortable and more educated.
If I get a bike I have a big church lot behind my house with no light poles that i can learn in along with a big field behind it so I will have room to learn. Plus theres lots of long straight roads near me.

What is your price point? Check out Cleveland Cycle werks. They have a couple nice looking bikes that are 250cc. They give you the vintage look and are light weight.

you can lower the front about an inch pretty easily. the rear you can get new shocks or search for a lowering kit .
