As some of you know, my 71 OIF Bonneville/chop/bob/whatever doesn't like the way I made the rear engine mounts. They have caused the center backbone/tank to crack and piss oil like Taggat after a night of drinking in a tent.
I'm going to document the redesign just in case anyone else has the same misfourtune of trying to chop/bob/whatever a OIF Triumph in the future. I REALLY want to have this done and back on the road by June 14th... Mods vs. Rockers Chicago is my goal.
Pictures to be posted tonight. If anyone wants to swing by and drink some beers hit me up.

Contact Arvin. I think that '72 I sold him has the race support weld on it. I'm sure you can find it on britbike too. If the wife lets me out of the house tonight I'll come over and drink your beer. Got too tired lastnight to move.

Throw some bars leak in it, should be fine....
On a side note: is there going to be a ride to Chicago MVR? I want to go but am scheduled to work on the 16th.

Hog, bring beer with you.
I'm done messing with it. I'm just going to make new mounts to attach the rear engine plates to the lower rails. Shouldn't be hard. Probably easier than what I did to begin with.

My thought is if it will clog a leak it will clog a small feed hole as well. An an emergency maybe, or to get you through to the next rebuild. I had a 318 in a Duster that ran a 50/50 mix of oil and motor honey. Without it the bottom end sounded like a drum circle.

Ok, so tonight I removed the right side exhaust and engine plate. Here is what it looks like: Ugly I know. So what the plan is: Strip bike down to bare frame. Cut old shit welded pipe out of frame. Make 1/8 in scab patch to fit OD of backbone / oil tank TIG weld it on. New engine mount: I will use 3/16in steel to make a bracket to weld to the lower frame rails TIG welded in place. I will make new 1/4in 6061-T6 engine plates. I will then reassemble the bike having it ready exactly one week... after Chicago Mods vs Rockers... Heartache strikes again!!! Glad I didn't buy my tickets in advance.
