Hey all,
As some of you know I've started a new project build. For those of you that don't I've started a new project build. :-) It's a 76 CB750 that I'm putting together as a father daughter bike. She was constantly bugging me to put a seat on my Triumph to which the answer will always be NO. So enter this bike.
I got her home with the help of Hogsausage.
I proceeded to get her running... successfully for about 30 seconds.. then
But it ran, so we ordered a new rectifier it came and bike wouldn't work.. no power at all so I started looking for the problem enter...
So I ordered a new harness... That cured her, she fires up and runs but was running poorly, one crude repair of the left coil and the bike ran much better. New plug in no.4 and she was firing on all four! Success! I hopped on it and took if for a spin... It works but needs a lot of TLC, cables are stiff and rusted and just needs general repairs.
So I started mocking up seats. This was the SBS Mk.I (Sydney Butt Stop. Mark I) (Sydney being my daughter) ( I suppose it could also work for any curb monkey whose name starts with S but more on that later.) Any who, here is the first mock up...
I didn't have a seat pan to work with at the time so I just made it up as I went. The girl child thought she could sit on it and that mock up is now in the trash... .
So this weekend I played around some more...
The bars / seating position are pretty comfy just sitting on the center stand... So I'm gonna try them out. The concept is to keep the stock seat dimensions except for height, and then make a fiberglass tailpiece incorporating the tail light / fender/ license plate. If I can make it work in the two up version, I will get another stock seat pan, and make a single seat version that looks identical except for the length. (I will ride the single version when the girl child doesn't want to go, so I can't have and curb monkeys asking for rides. Keeps momma happy. )
It's gonna look odd being that long but it won't extend past the stock fender, possibly a little shorter. For the price of some fiberglass I'll take a chance on it. The key is to have the girl child not fall off the back. If this doesn't work out I'll try something different..
I'm not planning on doing much to the engine other than a good tune up and sync the carbs. I'm going to get rid of the 2x2 into 1 exhaust system and go with the 4 into 1. It'll get new rubber front and rear. I'm just going to clean up the rims as best I can this summer. I will address any safety issues like the standard front brake complete rebuild. I may take it all down in the fall but I want to get some miles on it this year.
