Here you go Steve. Not much difference in the 2 as the starting platform was pretty decent. Always interesting to find out where the failure in a bikes engine originates. The GT550 has a weak point in the design of the electric starter. The electric starter runs through the bottom of the motor and the drive gear is in the right cover near the clutch. The motor spins a reduction gear that rides on a shaft that is screwed to the case with two counter-sunk then peened screws. The reductions gear drives a one-way larger gear on the reverse side of the clutch assembly. Closely resembles the way a CB/L350 starter works...same idea. The weak point in the Suzuki design are the 2 screws holding the reduction gear shaft to the case. Those 2 screws loosen then stretch under the torque of the starter drive thus mis-aligning the reduction gear to the clutch pack and the reduction takes the damage with chipped and missing teeth. Moral of this story: If anyone is interested in a GT550 be very wary of the electric starter and check this area thoroughly. I have found 2 motors with the identical problem! Before: After:

Gordon, Stop by anytime, bike will be covered in the garage for a bit longer as the buyer is in Hawaii but the bike is going to his home in Rhode Island. He is working out the shipping....Sad to see it go, but the profit funds the next build!!! and so it goes on!
P.S. I finally scored a nice RD350!!! Now my set is complete!! GT380, RD350 & H1!!
