Well it has been a great race season up until last weekend at EZ-Jim's. I went out for morning practice on the Penton and it was running great. I felt much faster than most of my class and figured I would have a great race and move up to first in points. Well after I got back to the pits, engine seized! Done, finished, she aint moving. A friend was kind enough to offer me his much slower Rickman Montesa to try and go out and grab some points. As I near the starting line the Rickman coughs and dies. I'm franticly looking all over the bike for a kill switch I may have hit or figured I pulled the compression release instead of the clutch. After waning my eye to the bottom of the engine I notice a steady stream of gas. Track up a bit and see that the drain plug from the bottom of the float bowl is missing. As I watch my moto leave the line I figure my day is over. Get the bike back to the pits and we find another plug to get him going before his moto but I decided to pack up and head home. You can only take so much in vintage racing. Well we pulled the engine last night and found out there is a tone of junk in my bottom end. It was a bottom end seize and will take much longer than the time I have available to get it ready in 3 weeks for Barber. So the bike is done for the year, but maybe not my race season. I've been offered a 125 Bultaco to race in my 250 open class at Barber. Seeing as I can barely catch the 250 Suzuki that’s leading my class on my Penton chances are I won't have much of a chance on the Taco. But this is Vintage racing and anything can happen!
