Sorry I have left this board an attended the past week or so but I have some updates. For those of you that don't know me (which is most of you) i'm new to riding. I purchased by first bike about a month ago, and have been totally enjoying it! I am a service tech at a Mercedes dealer and am learning how to bring that skill to motorbikes! I purchased my first bike, a 86 yamaha maxim 700x (xj700). With some minor repairs I got it roadworthy and learned to ride. last sunday afternoon i started to look into fixing some of the issues with the bike. primarily out of curiosity i continued to disassemble most of the bike and am learning how it all works. Not sure what i want the bike to be when its all done. I have ordered some parts to make it a nice riding machine, the only real fabrication i did was make a new battery tray out of some angle iron and scrap metal i had laying around. let me know what you guys thing and ideas of what you think i should do?? --sell it and make a few bucks, then by and actual vintage bike --chop it up and make it look good, but loose some value (maybe) --ride it... check out the pictures: custom battery tray, pics of the bike the day it came home, my garage paint booth, and disassembled bike. s398.photobucket.com/albums/pp61/snowenowen/motorbike/?albumview=slideshow

I would personaly try to sell it to get me an older machine. But that looks good and is still pretty old. But then again I love 70's bikes.

That's what I'm thinking too. I just purchased a really rough 78 Honda cx 500. I'll post Picts soon.

Personally, I think you should keep it. I don't like 80's bikes myself, but you need somewhere to start.
