Finally finished up today and took the XS for a ride with a buddy of mine who has a 78 XS650. The ride was shortened because the rubber gasket in the gas cap was dry rotted and leaked into my lap. Ordered a new rubber gasket so when it arrives Ill be on the road again. Attachments:

Took the seat pan today to have it covered. Padding is a must. That uncovered seat pan hurts just looking at it

Whats the seat look like?
Considering the smaller battery 4evo2 since my bike would be kick start only. Its only a 120cca vs. the 275cca. Do you think I need that much more amperage to get it fired and running?

Much more comfy than the raw metal seat. That battery should be fine as long as the coil, condenser and wiring are in good shape. Attachments:

Wondering if you could take a quick measurement from your axle to top of fork tube with the weight on the bike? Im trying to determine if I have over tubes or stock as my bike measures 34 in. The bike still stands too tall after sliding the forks up past the triple.

27 3/4 although the springs are weak for my liking. I'm putting new progressive springs and proportioning valves in this winter. forks are either soft or i ride into the corners to hard.

Right on, that confirms it with three others, I have 4 overs no wonder the damn thing sits so tall.
