So i had to tear woody/ ex woody down because i lost second and third gear so my plan is to build it bigger and better. I will show you pics but since this is going to be a sleeper i am having hide all the parts identification for now. Here it how she looks so far and its kinda scary because its been a long time since it looked like this.

[quote maybe someone could give me some pointers on splitting the cases. [/quote]
I know this sounds like something Captain Obvious would say but make sure all the case bolts have been removed..one may be hiding under some gunk in one of the recesses....
After that there should be a some raised bosses on the front of the cases for a wide blade screwdriver or prybar (if like a 750) gently pry at these points while tapping the cases with a deadblow hammer...that should do it

Too bad,but when its time to tear it down, there is no choice,if you can get your 550 up an goin ride it till you get woody back.Finding pistons for that is very hard,so if it doesnt need bored you can get rings from Honda for about 35.00 a piston,a donor engine might be the cheapest route.

Turned down 750 pistons is what a lot of guys use or a 650 motor or top end.

Yeah that's pretty much my plan. I am gonna use cb650 cylinders and take the sleeves out and put 750 sleeves in and then use the 750 pistons turned down and then use the 500 head with 750 carbs. I was going to do the 650 crank too but might have to wait because that requires a little more custom Work on the case.

if you are putting in 750 sleeves why do you have to turn down the pistons?
