you may have some wires crossed, the points gap could be off. The fact you had one cylinder working and the other not might have been one of the carbs not delivering fuel.
Like i said if you want assistance hit me with a pm.

Are the plugs fouled out? Any loose wires?

CL, I have a pdf of the factory honda manual that covers your bike. It can be a little tricky getting the timing correct. If I was a betting man (and I am) You have mentioned that it hasn't run. Have you checked the rectifier/regulator? The rectifier is notorious for failing and will cause many electrical problems. I made a little timing light that helps with static timing of the bikes. Hit me up if you want a copy of the manual. We'll have to meet somewhere because it's too big to email. I've tried.

Oh, I'll post a pic of the timing light so everyone can make one. On my way to the garage now. :-) Update: As promised the simple timing light.

check ur gap and , check timeing, if ok , check plugs, the runing rought could be carbs need cleaned, or timeing off a little,,, check comperssion to we've suggested that already, he needs to get a manual for one. Then do a full tune up. making sure all wires are plugged in correctly, the gap on the points are correct and that he's adjusting the valves with the crank in the correct position. if the Engine has good compression theres no reason the engine shouldnt run well.

The compression is good. I thought rectifier just stored power from the battery? I did notice the one of the plug wires was loose from the part of the wire that goes on the plug. But I think the problems are deeper than that. What about the coils? I don't have any spark at all.

obviously you need to do a little research and study up on what your components do. If im correct the rectifier changes over current from ac to dc, the regulator regulates how much current goes to your battery and components and makes sure you dont over charge your battery.
Coils very rarely go bad. And again, you need to do a full tune up per the manual you dont have.
If your battery is not charging you could possibly have a bad regulator.
good luck, Tango
More info.
IF your battery is under charging, its typically your its prob your rectifier. If your battery is OVER charging its prob the regulator that has failed.
Some bikes have ONE unit that is a Regulator/Rectifier. Some bikes have a separate regulator unit and a separate rectifier unit.

Tango is correct about the Rectifier. It converts AC (alternating current) into DC (direct current) If it is bad, and a good manual will tell you exactly how to test it, it will sometimes run, always run poorly if it does. You can damage your battery as well. DO NOT replace it with a stock honda part. Go to: www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/rectifiers.htmlHe sells a plug in solid state for unter 25 bucks, one that should last until the second coming. I have used them on two old honda's and they always work. If there is a way to upload and store files on this website. I'll upload the twin manual that I have. Eric
