Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but how can you tell the difference between Cad and chrome? My handle bars could use a good cleaning

I would say they are chrome. Never seen cad bars. Cad plating would be the dull silver plating on bolts and nuts.

FWIW - I could not find 100% Oxalic Acid but did find a gallon of deck & fence cleaner @ Menards that listed Oxalic Acid as one of the ingredients. It is probably a little weaker in strength and I assume contains a detergent. However, it worked great on some rusty chrome I had after a 24 hr. soak

i just clean it with "0000" steel wool pads and carb cleaner. let it film and dry and hand buff it. easy as pie.

So Im curious it eats rust, why not use it on rusty tanks? You probably can but sloshing around a bunch of acid could lead to some new scars and might damage the paint. However, I have heard of guys using weak muriatic solutions to do it. It will flash rust fairly quickly afterwards so be prepared to coat or protect it right after. I use POR 15's Marine Clean and 2 pieces of chain about 6" long.

I'm sure it can be made into a paste and applied to the bumper

How would you suggest to make it into a paste? With baking soda. Please provide details and thanks a lot.
