Good or bad idea? Ok, my original plan for my bike was to have my pipes come up high on both sides of the bike. After mocking it up, I would have to ride it like one would ride a horse. I know there are things I could do to make it work but for now, I just want to get my bike on the road. So next thought is to go and use my original exhaust pipes and the pipes have the same outide diameter as the mufflers. I could buy new mufflers but I already have these new ones and I hate spending money. My thought is to buy a 1 1/2" exhaust pipe (about 5" long) to fit into the header, weld it on and then the muffler would slide right over the new extension. Good or bad idea? Original plan that is getting scratched. New Plan.

That would work for the time being until you could get it done right or you might be happy with they are

I thought it would be easy to find 1 1/2" od exhaust pipe or extention but I guess I was wrong. I stopped at the local auto parts places and a couple shops that do some exhaust work with not luck. I guess I need to stop by a place that only does exhaust.

Try Ralph's on West 16th..I've gone by there and a lot of time they will give you their cut-offs.
You could also try online @ Jeg's or Summit

Today I went to Midas, Brandy's, Meineke, and a car ex, each place told me I should go to Ralph's mufflers. I went to Ralph's and the guy there said they don't have anything smaller than 1 3/4". I stopped at a couple auto parts places and no luck there. Maybe I just need to sell these mufflers and just find some that fits. Oh, and get this........The guy at Ralph's suggested I use PVC pipe. I was like for real, you work at an exhaust shop and you are suggesting I use pvc pipe. He said, I think it should work! I think he bought his ASE Certificate on ebay!

Thanks for the ideas, I actually just got back from Menards, After thinking about what the idiot from Ralph's said, I thought why couldn't I use pipe from a sink. It is thin but it would work, as I was carrying it around, I thought about conduit. After looking at the 1 1/2" conduit, I think I found the answer (thick, but not too thick). Now I need to run to harbor freight and get me a tailpipe expander to make it just a little bigger so I have good contact all the way around before I weld. Thanks again to all for the idea and help.

Conduit is usually galvanized..dont breathe those vapors when you weld it!! Thanks for the tip, I worked on a weld line 60 - 80 hours a week welding galvanized steel for GM for 2 years. Even with the ventilation they had, our eyes and throat would hurt. I will be careful not to breath the fumes.

I have seen adapters in stores for going to one size bigger or smaller. I don't remember for sure but I would try Meijers, Tractor supply or PepBoys. You might also check online.... J.C.Whitney or others may have them. LH

my perspective is restricted to a photo, but I love the high pipes! do that! don't know what you mean by 'riding a horse' but I'll assume you must push your knees out to keep from burning your legs. fabbed or adapted heat shields would look good, and maybe the pipes will snug up a bit closer to the motor/frame. ?? btw, I have a set of those muffs, and they sound pretty good with stainless steel wool replacing the tiny bit of glass they had stuck in there. if I'd known you could have borrowed them for mock up. I had 'em on my KZ for awhile. they were great on my XS too I have a 9" pc of 1 1/2 od exhaust pipe you can have Attachments:
